The First Steps To Increase Search Engine Traffic
Your own web site is the place to start to increase search engine traffic. Those skilled in SEO will want to read this article completely. Until you take care of all the on page SEO factors, you will be wasting your time with other methods. Or at most, you’ll get small boosts in traffic with other efforts, only to slowly fizzle away. So, get your own house in order before using other methods to increase search engine traffic.
How To Build A Web Page
It’s amazing how many people overlook this first step to increase search engine traffic. Each page of your web site must be focused on a single keyword or phrase. Not two, three or four keywords. The search engines have no idea what to do with a web page that tries to focus on too many topics. Remember essay writing in English 101. Only one topic per essay and only one idea per paragraph. This not only makes it easier for human visitor to digest, but it also makes it easier for the search engines to index that page under the keyword YOU specify.
Furthermore, why waste four keyword on one page when you could make them into four pages instead, all of them ranking in the engines independently working to increase search engine traffic.
How To Build A Keyword-Focused Page
There 5 parts to highly SEO optimized web page. They are:
- Title Tags
- Keyword Tags
- Description Tags
- H1 tags
- Keyword Density
The title tag must have your keyword in it together with some other text. If the keyword is ‘increase traffic‘. Then the title tag of your web page could include ‘how to increase traffic to your web page’.
The meta keyword tags should ideally only include ‘increase traffic’ and nothing else. The description tag should include ‘increase traffic’ near the beginning and then a more detailed description of what is to come. Many engines use the text in the meta description tag in the search results you see when you do a search.
Your keyword should be included in a short title using the ‘h1′ tag within the body of the html. This is another way the search engines look to see what the page is about.
Your keyword should be sprinkled through out the body of the page. The text of the page should be at least 400 words long. Regardless of how long the page becomes, your keyword should be 2% of the total text. Three percent is the maximum because Google might consider any greater density as search engine spamming.
Finally, there should be a couple outgoing links on the page leading to other pages of your site or to relevant pages on external sites.
And that about does it for on page SEO factors. Once you have these in place you will be ready to use more advanced techniques to rank highly in the search engines.
